Dhofar: His Highness Sayyid Marwan bin Turki al Said, Governor of Dhofar, officially launched the Amateur Radio Gathering organised by the Royal Omani Amateur Radio Society (ROARS) in Dhofar Governorate as part of the Dhofar Khareef 2026 activities. The event is being held at the Scout Camp on Jabal Ashur in the Wilayat of Mirbat, with the participation of amateur radio enthusiasts from the Sultanate of Oman and other GCC countries.
During the opening, His Highness was briefed on the key activities and programmes featured at the gathering, as well as the Society’s efforts to promote amateur radio, develop the technical skills of enthusiasts, and strengthen communication and the exchange of expertise between Omani amateur radio operators and their counterparts around the world.
Radio Stations Calling the World from Dhofar
The gathering features a number of amateur radio stations transmitting from Dhofar and establishing contacts with radio operators worldwide. Among them is the special-event station operating under the callsign A43KD, helping to strengthen the presence of the Sultanate of Oman and Dhofar Governorate on the international amateur radio map.
The stations provide participants with opportunities to conduct live radio communications and exchange calls with operators from different countries and regions, combining the technical aspects of the hobby with the promotion of Dhofar and its distinctive natural and tourism attractions during the Khareef season.
The programme also includes knowledge-sharing workshops and specialised technical courses for amateur radio operators, covering a range of topics related to radio communications and associated technologies. Technical sessions and practical exchanges of experience are also being held to enhance participants’ knowledge and skills.
International Visitors Praise the Society’s Achievements
The gathering has also attracted a number of amateur radio enthusiasts from outside the Sultanate of Oman. During their visit, they were introduced to the Society’s activities, facilities and programmes, and expressed their appreciation for the achievements made by ROARS and the efforts it continues to make to develop amateur radio, expand participation in the hobby, and strengthen the regional and international presence of Omani radio amateurs.
The gathering forms part of the Royal Omani Amateur Radio Society’s wider efforts to strengthen links among amateur radio enthusiasts, promote the exchange of knowledge and expertise, attract those interested in communications, electronics and modern technologies and highlight the important role amateur radio can play in community service and emergency and disaster communications.
The event continues until August 28, offering amateur radio operators, enthusiasts and visitors an opportunity to explore the hobby, experience live radio communications and enjoy a distinctive combination of technology, networking and the natural beauty of Dhofar during the Khareef season.
