MUSCAT: The Sultanate of Oman joined the world in celebrating World Amateur Radio Day, observed annually on April 18, marking the anniversary of the founding of the International Amateur Radio Union.

The occasion highlights the growing importance of amateur radio operators in enhancing human communication, supporting community initiatives, and contributing to awareness, training and emergency response efforts.

It also serves as an opportunity to underscore the vital role of amateur radio as a scientific and technical hobby in building national capabilities, developing individual skills in communications and modern technologies, and strengthening cooperation among enthusiasts at both local and international levels.

The Royal Oman Amateur Radio Society continues its efforts to promote this hobby, encourage participation, and enhance Oman’s presence in regional and international forums and events, reflecting its importance and contribution to society.

The society was established under Royal Decree No (2/93) as a national body responsible for regulating and developing amateur radio activities in Oman. - ONA
