SUHAR: Environmental awareness moved from theory to practice in Suhar as 30 children aged seven to 12 participated in 'Yasmina by Jusoor', an interactive initiative aimed at building practical environmental knowledge and fostering a lasting sense of responsibility towards nature.

Held at Beedar Nursery in Suhar, an agricultural nursery owned by an Omani entrepreneur, the initiative gave children an opportunity to explore plants, understand their needs and experience planting first-hand.

Through a series of educational and creative activities, the participants learned basic plant care and home gardening. Each child also took a plant home to nurture, extending the learning experience beyond the event.

For Hawraa al Ajmi, an 11-year-old sixth-grade student, the hands-on approach was among the highlights of the programme.

“I am 11 years old, and participating in Yasmina by Jusoor was a very enjoyable experience. What I liked most was being in nature and taking part in the activities instead of just sitting and listening,” she said. “We learned how to plant, how much water a plant needs and how to care for it so that it grows healthily.”

Jaber bin Sulaiman al Busaidi, Executive Manager of Jusoor, said the initiative was based on the belief that practical experiences can help children develop responsible environmental behaviour.

“Yasmina by Jusoor starts from a simple idea: when a child plants a seedling with their own hands, they develop a stronger desire to care for it and protect the environment around them,” he said.

The initiative seeks to promote practical environmental awareness among children, introduce them to basic plant care and home gardening, and encourage them to take responsibility for nurturing a plant.

It also aims to support Omani entrepreneurs and talents involved in the programme, highlight Jusoor’s contribution to environmental and social responsibility, and extend the initiative’s impact through educational digital content.

Its impact will be assessed through pre- and post-activity surveys designed to measure changes in the children’s environmental knowledge.

The initiative also reflects Jusoor’s approach to building community partnerships. Alongside the Omani-owned nursery, the event involved an Omani digital artist who produced live artwork, an Omani entrepreneur responsible for the event’s branding, and a local media production house that documented the experience.

'Yasmina by Jusoor' forms part of the foundation’s wider environmental awareness campaign, with digital educational content continuing until the end of October 2026.

The campaign is also part of Jusoor’s social responsibility practices aligned with the ISO 26000 guidelines on social responsibility. In May 2026, the foundation received recognition for the alignment of its practices with the guidelines.

The recognition reflects Jusoor’s efforts to integrate environmental and social considerations into its initiatives, strengthen stakeholder engagement and develop community programmes aimed at delivering measurable and sustainable impact.

Through Yasmina, these principles are translated into a simple but meaningful experience — helping children understand that caring for the environment can begin with the responsibility of nurturing a single living plant.
