Sektioui adds three players as Oman continue training camp

MUSCAT: Oman head coach Tarik Sektioui has added three players to the national team’s ongoing domestic training camp as the Red Warriors continue preparations for the 27th Arabian Gulf Cup in Jeddah.

Al Harith bin Zaid al Mukhaini, Said bin Sulaiman al Alawi and Turki bin Abdullah Bait Rabie have been called up to join the squad, giving Sektioui additional options as he continues to assess players ahead of the regional tournament.

Their inclusion takes the number of players involved in the camp to 31, following the initial 28-man squad announced ahead of the gathering, which began on August 14 and will continue until August 24.

The Red Warriors, meanwhile, continued their programme with their second training session of the camp, with the players working under Sektioui and his technical staff as preparations gradually gather pace.

The latest additions provide another opportunity for the coaching staff to evaluate players who have progressed through Oman’s age-group national teams. Said al Alawi, in particular, has featured in Oman’s youth set-up and was part of the national youth team programme, while Turki Bait Rabie has previously been involved with Oman’s Olympic team.

Sektioui is using the current gathering to broaden his options and assess the competition for places before moving into the next phase of preparations. The camp also gives the coaching staff valuable time with the locally available players ahead of decisions on the squad that will represent Oman at the Gulf Cup.

The Moroccan coach has combined experienced internationals with a number of younger players during the current camp, continuing his efforts to shape the team ahead of his first major tournament in charge of the Red Warriors.

Oman will compete in Group A at Khaleeji 27 alongside hosts Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Kuwait. The Red Warriors will open their campaign against Iraq on September 23 as they begin their bid for a third Arabian Gulf Cup title. The Jeddah tournament will run from September 23 to October 6.
