SALALAH: Omantel has launched an awareness initiative titled ‘The Digital Detective’ as part of its participation in the Khareef Dhofar Season 2026, aimed at promoting digital safety among children and equipping them with skills to use modern technologies safely and responsibly.
The initiative offers children an interactive educational experience that combines learning with practical application. Participants take on the role of a 'digital investigator' and navigate scenarios simulating common online risks, including fraudulent messages, fake accounts, sharing personal information and communicating with strangers on digital platforms.
The experience is designed to help children identify suspicious indicators, assess information and make appropriate decisions when using digital platforms.
Qais bin Mohammed al Amri, Director of Social Responsibility at Omantel, said the initiative seeks to strengthen digital awareness among children and provide them with practical skills to navigate modern technologies safely.
He said the interactive format places children in situations that mirror everyday Internet use, helping them distinguish between safe and unsafe practices and encouraging responsible digital behaviour.
The initiative, which runs until August 10, targets children aged 6 to 15, with content tailored to different age groups. Parents can also participate in some stages of the experience to encourage family discussions about responsible digital technology use.
Participants progress through several stages, beginning with registration, followed by the interactive experience and concluding with an assessment of their understanding and newly acquired skills.
The initiative forms part of Omantel’s broader awareness programmes aimed at promoting digital literacy, strengthening information-security awareness and encouraging children and families to adopt safe and responsible practices when using digital technologies. - ONA
