MUSCAT: Around 30 boxers aged 15 and above are preparing to take part in the Khareef Champions Boxing Camp, organised by Oman Boxing Club (OBC) in Salalah from August 10 to 17 in cooperation with the Oman Martial Arts and Self Defence Committee.
The camp is designed as an integrated development programme aimed at identifying emerging talent and improving the participants’ technical, physical and mental abilities. It will provide young boxers with a professional training environment built around discipline, fitness, confidence and competitive spirit under the supervision of specialised coaches.
The participation of younger age groups is particularly important, as these years represent a crucial stage in a boxer’s development. Structured training at this level helps athletes establish strong technical foundations, improve coordination and movement, and understand the discipline and commitment required to progress in the sport.
The programme also seeks to create a clear development pathway for promising boxers, enabling them to advance towards higher competitive levels and potentially represent their clubs and national teams in the future.
Training will include morning and evening sessions, fitness and endurance work, technical and tactical exercises, sparring, and guidance on nutrition and recovery. The varied programme is intended to improve physical readiness, defensive and attacking skills, ring movement and decision-making under pressure.
Beyond technical development, the camp will focus on teamwork, sporting discipline and respect for opponents, coaches and officials. It will also encourage participants to manage pressure and approach competition with confidence and responsibility.
The wider objectives include strengthening boxing in Oman, attracting more young athletes to the sport and creating a distinctive sporting experience linked to Khareef Dhofar Season. The camp combines daily training, physical and technical preparation, sporting activities and an environment that encourages competition and interaction among the participants.
'FIGHT NIGHT'
Safety will remain a central part of the programme. Participants will undergo the required medical examinations, while qualified technical, administrative and medical personnel will be available throughout the camp. Training and competitive bouts will consider each boxer’s age, weight, experience and physical level, with approved protective equipment required during the sessions.
The OBC have announced the selected participants in two groups. The Under-18 list contains 15 names, while 12 boxers were selected in the 18-and-above category. An orientation session for participants and the parents of minors will be held on August 5 to explain the programme and complete the required agreements and consent documents. August 8 has been set as the deadline for submitting an approved medical report ahead of the group’s departure for Salalah on August 10.
The camp will conclude with a competitive Fight Night on August 17, giving the boxers an opportunity to apply the skills acquired during the programme and allowing coaches to assess their technical and physical progress. The closing event is also expected to help identify talented participants who can continue within more advanced development programmes.
