SALALAH: The Royal Oman Police (ROP) has intensified its security, traffic and coastal safety operations across Dhofar Governorate as part of a comprehensive plan to ensure the safety of residents and the growing number of visitors during Khareef Dhofar 2026.
The enhanced measures aim to strengthen operational readiness, provide efficient policing services and maintain smooth traffic flow throughout the tourism season.
Col Salem bin Mohammed al Kaf, Assistant Commander of Dhofar Governorate Police, said the strategic deployment of patrols and security checkpoints has strengthened the police presence across the governorate.
“The strategic deployment of patrols and checkpoints allows us to strengthen our operational presence across Dhofar Governorate. It also enables the force to respond effectively to a wide range of situations, ensuring a safe and secure environment during the khareef season,” he said.
The increased police presence forms part of an integrated operations plan designed to manage routine policing duties while responding quickly to emergencies and unexpected incidents.
Lt Col Suleiman bin Said al Hattali, Director of Operations at Dhofar Governorate Police Command, said security and traffic management plans have been developed to cover major roads, tourist attractions and event venues.
He added that the operations centre functions round the clock to respond to traffic accidents, emergency calls, requests for assistance and public inquiries.
To improve traffic movement and reduce congestion, the ROP has implemented a series of traffic management measures across key routes.
Lt Col Ahmed bin Said Ghawas, Assistant Director of Traffic, said signal timings at major intersections are adjusted dynamically to prioritise heavily congested routes by extending green-light durations where required.
Beach safety also remains a key focus during the khareef season, when coastal areas attract thousands of visitors.
Lt Col Alawi bin Hafeez al Haddad, Commander of the Police Coast Guard Unit, said the safety of beachgoers remains a top priority, particularly during periods of rough sea conditions caused by high waves and strong rip currents.
He noted that the Police Coast Guard has been equipped with specialised assets, including all-terrain vehicles and jet skis, to respond rapidly to drowning incidents and other emergencies.
The ROP has urged the public to comply with traffic regulations and safety instructions to protect lives and property.
Motorists are advised to take regular breaks during long journeys and avoid dangerous practices such as speeding, reckless overtaking and driving on green spaces.
