Restoration work of Buraimi’s historic house begins

AL BURAIMI: Preliminary excavation works are underway for the restoration project of the historic Bait Bahr House in the Wilayat of Al Buraimi, as part of the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism (MoHT) efforts to preserve historical landmarks, in cooperation with Al Buraimi Governor Office.

A geophysical survey revealed possible foundations and underground walls at the site. The survey also included the excavation of four trial pits in the surrounding area to uncover archaeological features and determine the actual extent of the historic property.

Hamid bin Rashid al Zaidi, Director of the Heritage and Tourism Department in Al Buraimi Governorate, said the works are part of preparations for the restoration of the historic landmark. He noted that the project’s appointed consultancy firm is currently preparing the necessary studies and proposals for assessment.

Al Zaidi added that the project reflects the ministry’s efforts to transform heritage assets into tourist attractions that complement the existing attractions of Al Buraimi Oasis.

Eng Obaid bin Salim al Kaabi, Director of the Projects Department at Al Buraimi Municipality, said the Governorate has floated a tender for preparing consultancy studies to develop the old neighbourhood and the pathways leading to the site. The project aims to establish an integrated development vision that preserves the area’s traditional urban identity, highlights its historical significance, and prepares it for future development projects that align with its authentic character.
