Momo enthusiasts in Oman have been enjoying “The Momos Edition”, a week-long culinary festival celebrating authentic Nepalese and Himalayan flavours at Imperial Kitchen in Al Khuwair.
Organised in collaboration with the Embassy of Nepal, the festival was officially inaugurated by Bishesh Kumar Sah, Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of Nepal, during a special ceremony at the restaurant.
The unveiling was followed by a tasting session featuring a variety of handcrafted momo specialities prepared by Executive Chef Shiva Datta Acharya, a Nepalese culinary expert known for his authentic Himalayan cuisine.
“We have many types of momos, but right now we are focusing on just one — tandoori momo”, Chef Shiva said.
“We steam the momos first, after which we marinate them with tandoori masala and then cook them in the tandoor oven”, he explained.
Running from July 26 to August 1, 2026, The Momos Edition features an extensive menu of steamed, fried, pan-fried and signature gourmet momos, with both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options prepared using authentic recipes and premium ingredients.
Himalayan cuisine features mountain-grown ingredients such as Timur, or Sichuan pepper, Jambu, an aromatic herb and Bhangjeera, or perilla seeds, blended with pure rock salt.
“Normally, Himalayan flavours include black pepper, cumin and cinnamon, but we are introducing Indian fusion with the tandoor”, Chef Shiva said.
