ALGIERS: Oman and Algeria have taken a significant step towards strengthening bilateral cooperation in communications, information technology (ICT) and digital transformation, as an Omani delegation began a three-day official visit to Algeria aimed at expanding economic and technological partnerships.
The delegation, led by Dr Ali bin Amer al Shaithani, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology for Communications and Information Technology, comprises officials from the ministry, the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI), the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), and representatives of several Omani technology companies.
The visit focuses on exploring partnership opportunities, exchanging expertise and supporting digital transformation initiatives in both countries while promoting the regional expansion of Omani technology firms.
The delegation opened its programme with a meeting with Mariam Ben Mouloud, Algeria's Minister of Digital Affairs, during which both sides discussed ways to enhance collaboration in digital transformation and ICT.
They also reviewed their respective national experiences in developing digital services and explored avenues for institutional cooperation.
Algerian officials presented key projects overseen by the High Commission for Digitalisation, including the National Digital Transformation Strategy, digital infrastructure initiatives and the Algerian National Centre for Digital Services, highlighting the country's progress in building an integrated digital ecosystem.
The Omani delegation, in turn, showcased the National Digital Economy Programme, the Government Digital Transformation Programme and national artificial intelligence initiatives. Representatives of leading Omani technology companies also highlighted innovative solutions in artificial intelligence, digital government services, cybersecurity, cloud computing and software development, underscoring the growing capabilities of the Sultanate's digital sector.
The visit reflects the strong bilateral relations between Oman and Algeria and their shared commitment to leveraging advanced technologies to build competitive, knowledge-based digital economies driven by innovation.
It also aligns with the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology's efforts to expand the international footprint of Omani technology companies, boost digital exports and accelerate the growth of the ICT sector in line with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040, which seeks to foster innovation, strengthen public-private partnerships and position national companies in global markets. - ONA
