MUSCAT: The Sultanate of Oman on Wednesday highlighted its efforts in implementing the Arab Convention Against Corruption. This took place within the framework of the State Financial and Administrative Audit Authority’s hosting of a country visit by experts from the Kingdom of Bahrain, the Kingdom of Morocco, and the General Secretariat of the Arab League.
Zaher bin Sulaiman al Salmi, Deputy Chairman of the State Financial and Administrative Audit Authority for Audit of Government Units, received the visiting delegates.
During the meeting, Al Salmi commended the efforts of the two reviewing States and the General Secretariat of the Arab League in reviewing the Sultanate of Oman's implementation of the Arab Convention Against Corruption.
He noted that the Sultanate of Oman had ratified the Arab Convention Against Corruption pursuant to Royal Decree No 28/2014, reflecting its commitment to fostering constructive cooperation in promoting integrity and combating corruption through the implementation of measures aimed at preventing and combating corruption. He further emphasised the importance of strengthening Arab cooperation in the areas of integrity, transparency, accountability, and the rule of law, while encouraging individuals and civil society institutions to actively participate in preventing and combating corruption.
He also underscored the national efforts undertaken by government entities in the Sultanate of Oman in fulfilment of their active role under the National Integrity Promotion Plan. In addition, he commended the dedicated efforts and valuable contributions of the Sultanate of Oman's team of experts in reviewing the implementation of both the United Nations Convention Against Corruption and the Arab Convention Against Corruption.
During the programme, the observations of the experts from the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Kingdom of Morocco on the Sultanate of Oman's responses regarding its implementation of the provisions of the Arab Convention Against Corruption were discussed. The discussions also highlighted the Sultanate of Oman's key success stories and best practices identified through the convention review process, as well as opportunities for further improvement.
It is worth noting that these country review visits are conducted pursuant to Paragraph (35) of the Terms of Reference for the Mechanism for Reviewing the Implementation of the Arab Convention Against Corruption, which underscores the importance of complementing the desk review with country visits and joint meetings. — ONA
