IBRA: The Governorate of Al Sharqiyah North, represented by Al Sharqiyah North Municipality, has commenced the implementation of a new set of developmental and service projects across various wilayats of the governorate in 2026. With a total investment of RO 34,016,900, the initiative is part of the municipality’s strategic plan to bolster infrastructure and upgrade municipal services in alignment with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040 and the governorate's sustainable development objectives.
Eng Nasser bin Khamis al Hasani, Director-General of Al Sharqiyah North Municipality, stated that the new projects are vital to the municipality’s efforts to modernise the road network and enhance the overall quality of life for residents. He highlighted that the 2026 package allocates RO 17,860,000 for the paving of internal roads stretching over 170 kilometres. Additionally, RO 5,829,000 has been set aside for the rehabilitation and maintenance of damaged roads, while RO 850,000 will fund essential safety enhancements and road marking works across the governorate.
Al Hasani added that the developmental blueprint also focuses on community spaces, environmental safety and public amenities. Funding for these initiatives includes RO 1,305,000 dedicated to the construction and upgrading of public parks and walkways, alongside RO 666,900 for street lighting and aesthetic landscaping projects. Furthermore, RO 180,000 will support the completion of outstanding works on several multi-purpose community halls and RO 295,000 is earmarked for critical rainwater drainage systems and wadi protection barriers.
He also shared updates on key ongoing projects that are currently shaping the governorate’s tourism and leisure landscape. Among these is the development of the natural water pools in the Wilayat of Wadi Bani Khalid, a project valued at RO 2,657,000 which has reached a completion rate of 43 per cent. These initiatives build on the momentum of last year’s massive internal road paving project, which successfully covered 460 km across all wilayats at a total cost of RO 53,976,000, marking one of the largest infrastructure packages ever executed in Al Sharqiyah North.
Work continues progressively on several other service and entertainment projects. This includes Al Khalidiya Park in the Wilayat of Wadi Bani Khalid, constructed at a cost of RO 780,000 and currently standing at 78 per cent completion. Meanwhile, Al Ghubra Park in the Wilayat of Dima W'attayeen has reached 44 per cent completion with an investment of RO 661,000 and the development of Hawar Cafe, valued at RO 153,000, is nearing completion at 97 per cent.
Al Hasani concluded by announcing the successful completion of a project to design and upgrade nine children's playgrounds across various wilayats of the governorate. Built at a total cost of RO 527,000, these projects aim to provide safe, fully-equipped recreational spaces for children, hence strengthening social cohesion and community well-being in residential neighbourhoods.
