Muscat: The Ministry of Education (MoE) issued a clarification on Ministerial Decision No. 155/2026, which sets out new admission requirements for Omani students applying for educational specialisations.

The ministry stated that the regulations apply to General Education Diploma (GED) graduates seeking admission to education-related programmes, as well as applicants for the professional teaching qualification diploma.

The ministry confirmed that the new regulations will not affect students currently enrolled in bachelor’s degree programmes in education or those undertaking the professional teaching qualification diploma, who will continue their studies under the existing framework, ensuring academic continuity and stability.

The clarification follows the ministry’s recent announcement of revised admission criteria for the Postgraduate Diploma in Education programme.

Meanwhile, under the updated requirements, the minimum cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) for admission has been raised to 2.7, compared to the previous threshold of 2.3.

The ministry said the decision is part of broader efforts to enhance the quality of teacher preparation and improve educational outcomes by attracting more qualified candidates into the teaching profession.
