MUSCAT: Oman LNG has shipped its first liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargo aboard the newly commissioned Muscat LNG, marking a milestone in the Sultanate of Oman's efforts to strengthen its position as a reliable global energy supplier while expanding national participation across the LNG value chain.
The vessel, owned by Asyad Shipping, loaded its inaugural cargo at the Oman LNG terminal in Sur before departing for international markets. It is the first of two newly built LNG carriers expected to enter service this year, with a second vessel scheduled to arrive in July.
The deployment of Muscat LNG expands Oman's LNG shipping capacity and reflects closer collaboration between the country's energy, maritime and logistics sectors. The carrier is equipped with dual-fuel propulsion and advanced technologies designed to improve fuel efficiency and reduce emissions, supporting global efforts to decarbonise maritime transport.
Hamed bin Mohammed al Naamany, Chief Executive Officer of Oman LNG, said the first voyage represented another step in strengthening the company's export capabilities.
"This first shipment aboard Muscat LNG marks an important milestone in our journey to continuously enhance Oman's LNG export capabilities. It reflects our strong collaboration with national partners, including Asyad Shipping, and our shared commitment to operational excellence, sustainability, and delivering reliable energy to the world," he said.
The shipment comes as Oman continues to invest across its integrated energy ecosystem, from gas production and liquefaction to shipping and international delivery, supporting the objectives of Oman Vision 2040 to create greater in-country value and reinforce the Sultanate's position as a regional energy and logistics hub.
Oman LNG, established in 1994, is one of the country's flagship energy companies and one of its largest sources of national income after oil revenues. Beyond LNG exports, the company has invested in social development initiatives covering entrepreneurship, education, healthcare, tourism and women's empowerment.
The Oman LNG Development Foundation's investment arm also holds a 10 per cent stake in Muscat LNG, reflecting its strategy of supporting investments across the energy, shipping and logistics sectors.
The arrival of Muscat LNG and the planned deployment of a second carrier next month are expected to further strengthen Oman's ability to transport LNG using nationally linked assets, enhancing supply chain resilience and supporting the long-term growth of the country's gas exports. — ONA
