MUSCAT: Al Masarra Hospital on Sunday organised a symposium titled 'Journey of recovery from addiction: From pain to stability through the integration of roles'. The symposium underlined the need to unify national efforts to deal with addiction and dual diagnosis.
The symposium stressed that addiction and dual diagnosis are deemed major health and social challenges that require raising public awareness, endorsing integrated treatment interventions and developing partnerships among the parties concerned.
Dr Badr bin Ali al Habsi, Director of Al Masarra Hospital, said that the symposium stems from the hospital's conviction that mental health is a shared social responsibility. He added that spreading knowledge and raising public awareness constitute a key approach to preventing addiction and enhancing the quality of life.
The symposium highlighted the role of family and society in the early detection of cases of addiction and in supporting the patients' recuperation.
The symposium saw the participation of specialists and employees from government and private health establishments. - ONA
