MUSCAT: Sohar University has been ranked for the first time in the 601-800 band globally in the Times Higher Education Sustainability Impact Ratings 2026, reaffirming its position among leading universities worldwide and a key contributor to Oman’s higher education landscape. Within Oman, Sohar University stands alongside the country’s top institutions recognised in major global rankings, underscoring its growing national standing.

In the Sustainability Impact Ratings, Sohar University has achieved notable performance across several Sustainable Development Goals, including Quality Education (SDG 4) top 200-300 in the world and joint number 1 in Oman; Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions (SDG 16) top 101-200 in the world; and number 1 in Oman, and Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure (SDG 9) 301-400. Sohar University is the only university in Oman to be ranked in this category, reflecting its holistic approach to teaching, research and community engagement. These results demonstrate the university’s strength in advancing inclusive, high-quality learning while supporting just and resilient institutions in line with global priorities.

He emphasised the ongoing dedication to impactful research, responsible governance and partnerships that will continue to enhance the university’s role as a national and regional hub for sustainable development.
