Amid the cool climate and breathtaking landscapes of Al Jabal Al Akhdar, the blueberry season at Rummana Farm has become a distinctive seasonal attraction that blends agriculture, culture, and family-oriented experiences. Running from May 15 to June 19, the season offers visitors a limited-time opportunity to hand-pick one of Oman’s relatively rare crops.
According to Omar Al Harthi, Operations Manager at Rummana Farm, the farm is designed to go beyond the traditional concept of agriculture. “At Rummana, we do not view the farm as agricultural land alone, but as a space where agriculture, culture, and art come together. Our goal is for visitors to leave with a complete experience that reflects all these dimensions, not just a brief visit,” he said.
The uniqueness of the blueberry season lies in both its rarity in Oman and its short duration. Many visitors are surprised to discover that blueberries are grown locally in Al Jabal Al Akhdar, having previously known them only as imported fruit. The experience becomes even more meaningful as guests see the berries growing on the bushes and pick them by hand.
The visit begins with a warm welcome and a brief introduction to the farm and the season. Visitors then move into the fields for the main experience: hand-picking fresh blueberries directly from the bushes. Afterward, they can relax in designated seating areas and enjoy the produce they have collected, along with a variety of supporting activities.
These activities include tasting sessions, family-friendly experiences, and cultural corners that highlight the local heritage, ensuring that the visit offers both entertainment and learning. The farm’s approach is designed to cater to all family members, with children engaging in exploration and learning, while adults enjoy relaxation and connection with nature.
Farm management noted that many visitors arrive expecting a short tour or photo opportunity, but are often surprised by how engaging the hands-on harvesting experience becomes. Picking berries and distinguishing between ripe and unripe fruit adds an interactive dimension that transforms the visit into a memorable activity.
One of the most common reactions from visitors is the difference in taste between freshly picked blueberries and store-bought fruit. Many also ask about the next season before leaving, reflecting the strong impression the experience leaves behind.
Al Harthi emphasized that such seasonal experiences play an important role in strengthening the connection between people and Omani agriculture. By allowing visitors to directly engage with harvesting, these experiences help transform agriculture from a distant activity into something tangible and appreciated.
Beyond the blueberry season, Rummana Farm continues to offer seasonal experiences throughout the year. From mid-July to the end of September, visitors can enjoy picking figs, pears, and pomegranates directly from the trees. A special pomegranate event is also planned for September, with details to be announced soon.
Through its seasonal offerings, Rummana Farm continues to position itself as a unique agritourism destination that brings together nature, culture, and hands-on agricultural experiences in the heart of Al Jabal Al Akhdar.
