Oman highlights OIC’s parliamentary cooperation

BAKU: The Sultanate of Oman on Wednesday took part in the 20th session of the Conference of the Parliamentary Union of OIC Member States, held in Baku, Republic of Azerbaijan.


Khalid bin Hilal al Maawali, Chairman of Majlis Ash’shura, delivered the Sultanate of Oman’s speech at the conference. He stressed the importance of consolidating parliamentary cooperation among OIC member states with the aim of supporting sustainable economic development efforts.


Al Maawali pointed out that the rapid economic development, coupled with growing global challenges, necessitates the intensification of efforts through joint parliamentary action, notably in terms of developing legislative frameworks that support investment and innovation, boosting governance and transparency and establishing more resilient economies.


Al Maawali reiterated the Sultanate of Oman’s firm stance in support of the Palestinian cause. He stressed the need to prioritise dialogue and support international efforts to enhance security, stability and peace.


Later, the Majlis Ash’shura participated in a consultative meeting of the Arab Group affiliated to the Union of Councils of OIC Member States.


The conference participants also discussed regulatory issues, including the election of a chairman for the 21st session of the conference. — ONA
