MUSCAT: Senior business executives from the United States and the Gulf region joined Eng Said bin Hamoud al Maawali, Oman's Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, for a discussion on regional supply chains and logistics connectivity, highlighting the Sultanate of Oman's growing role in global trade networks.
The virtual briefing, titled "Navigating Regional Supply Chains: Oman’s Strategic Logistics Corridors", was organised by AmCham Oman in collaboration with the US Chamber of Commerce’s US-Oman Business Programme. The event brought together business leaders, investors and logistics specialists to discuss trade opportunities and the importance of resilient supply chains.
Participants explored Oman’s strategic position along key international shipping routes and the role of its ports, airports, free zones and economic zones in facilitating trade between markets in the Gulf, Asia and beyond.
Steve Lutes, Vice-President for Middle East Affairs at the US Chamber of Commerce, said Oman’s location at the crossroads of the Indian Ocean, the Gulf and Asian trade routes has strengthened its position within global supply chains.
“Oman's strategic position at the crossroads of the Indian Ocean, Arab Gulf and Asian trade routes makes it a critical anchor for global supply chains, offering stability, world-class infrastructure and access to regional markets”, he said.
Lutes added that the discussion reaffirmed Oman’s role as a reliable trade partner and highlighted opportunities to expand engagement between American companies and the Sultanate of Oman’s logistics sector.
Ali Daud, Founder and Chairman Emeritus of AmCham Oman, said Oman’s continued investment in infrastructure and economic diversification is attracting growing interest from international businesses seeking long-term partnerships in the region.
Rebecca Olson, Chief Executive Officer of AmCham Oman, said the event reflected Oman’s increasing importance in global supply chain discussions and underscored the strength of trade relations between Oman and the United States.
The discussion comes as Oman gains international recognition for its logistics performance. According to the World Bank’s Logistics Performance Indicators 2.0, Oman ranked first globally in Export Supply Chain Initiation and ninth worldwide in Import Supply Chain Termination, reflecting the efficiency of its trade and logistics ecosystem.
Organisers said the event formed part of ongoing efforts to strengthen bilateral trade and investment ties while promoting opportunities across Oman’s transport, logistics and infrastructure sectors.
