MUSCAT: The Sultanate of Oman participated in the thirty-ninth session of the General Assembly of the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development (AOAD), which was held via video conference from June 17 to 18, to discuss issues related to the development of the agricultural sector and the enhancement of food security in the Arab countries.


Oman was led at the session by Dr Ahmed bin Nasser al Bakri, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources for Agriculture.


The session witnessed a review of the report of the AOAD Director-General, and a discussion of the Executive Council’s report on the work of the Technical and Financial Committees, in addition to discussing a number of topics related to the development of agriculture, animal and fish production, the promotion of agricultural investments, and support for the efforts of Arab countries in achieving food security and agricultural sustainability.


Dr Al Bakri reviewed the most prominent economic indicators of the agriculture and food security sector in the Sultanate of Oman, and the growth it is witnessing in the volume of investments and strategic projects that support increasing production and enhancing self-sufficiency. He also reviewed the investment programme for the sector and the promising opportunities available to investors. — ONA
