

Muscat: The Main Committee for Moon Sighting announced on Tuesday the confirmation of the sighting of the crescent moon for the month of Muharram for the year 1448 AH.
Consequently, Tuesday will be the first day of the month of Muharram for the year 1448 AH, corresponding to June 16, 2026.
The statement reads as follows:
“The Main Committee for Moon Sighting met this evening, 29 of Dhu al-Hijjah 1447 AH, corresponding to 15 June 2026, under the chairmanship of Dr Mohammed Said al Maamari, Minister of Endowments and Religious Affairs, and with the membership of Sheikh Dr Kahlan Nabhan al Kharousi, Assistant Grand Mufti of the Sultanate of Oman; Eng. Khalid Hilal al Busaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior; Ahmed Saleh al Rashdi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs; Mohamed Salim al Akhzami, Judge at the Supreme Court; Abdulrahman Abdul Sattar al Kamali, Judge at the Supreme Court and Mohamed Salim al Nahdi, Judge at the Supreme Court.
The Committee received reports confirming the sighting of the crescent moon and after studying the reports, it decided that the sighting of the crescent moon of the month of Muharram for the year 1448 AH has been confirmed. Accordingly, Tuesday will be the first day of the month of Muharram for the year 1448 AH, corresponding to 16 June 2026.”
