ASTANA: The Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Kazakhstan held a joint session of talks in the field of documents and archives during a visit by the delegation of the National Records and Archives Authority (NRAA) to Kazakhstan.
The visit comes within the framework of participating in the 3rd Conference of Archivists.
The Omani delegation was headed by Dr Hamed bin Mohammed al Dhawyani, Chairman of the National Records and Archives Authority (NRAA), while the Kazakh side was led by Aliya Mustafina, Director of the Archive of the President.
During the session, both sides exchanged visions on mutual interests and discussed opportunities to develop professional and technical partnerships, focusing on several core pillars, namely document and records management systems, digital archiving and electronic systems, preservation, maintenance, and restoration techniques and utilising modern technologies to support scientific research and serve beneficiaries.
As part of the visit, the Omani delegation toured the Archive of the President of Kazakhstan to review its role in preserving high-value national documents and delivering research facilities. The tour included an inspection of an accompanying exhibition that demonstrates how modern technologies are integrated to present and highlight the historical value of records.
The delegation also observed the ongoing restoration and maintenance operations within the Kazakh archive, exploring the specialised equipment used to process, treat and sustain documentary assets for future generations.
This visit comes within the framework of the NRAA's commitment to enhancing the Sultanate of Oman's presence in specialised international forums, broadening cooperation with global archival institutions, and adopting advanced international best practices in digital archiving and records management. - ONA
