I have always been drawn to the concept of the Butterfly Effect, the idea that a small action in one place can create meaningful ripple effects elsewhere. It reminds us that value often spreads in ways we neither anticipate nor witness.
What begins as something small may quietly shape ideas, decisions, and even broader ways of thinking over time. This idea is not merely theoretical; it becomes visible in how knowledge moves between people and evolves into practice, creativity, and innovation.
Recently, during a lecture organised by the Ministry of Information, Muhannad al Nuaimi, Consultant in Communication and International Relations and a trainer specialised in Digital Media and AI, shared a story about a conversation with a friend.
What began as a simple exchange evolved into a reflection on the value we leave behind, inspiring the sharing of several books on AI. As I listened, I recalled reading one of those books last year. The ideas I found within its pages later helped shape my work on the Qissaty project, a website that personalises children's stories using their names and photos, while also expanding my approach to creative design and image generation.
At that moment, it became clear that Muhannad al Nuaimi had already achieved what he intended, creating value that extends beyond the moment and lives on through others. The impact of our actions rarely follows a straight line. It often reaches people we may never meet and contributes to outcomes far beyond our expectations.
This reflection naturally extends to another perspective shared by Hassan bin Fida al Lawati, National Programme Head for AI & Advanced Techs at the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, who emphasised the importance of ensuring that AI serves humanity.
It prompted a broader reflection on how communication itself is evolving. If influence once began and ended with conversation, it is now shaped, refined, and expanded through intelligent systems that tailor messages and enhance understanding.
But this also raises a deeper question: when communication is increasingly shaped by AI, through personalisation, adaptation and creative content design. Are we actively shaping a human-centred model of AI, or are we still in the process of defining what that contribution should look like?
Ultimately, whether in simple conversations, in media practices, or through the evolving role of AI, the question of impact remains constant: how meaningful is what we create and how far does it reach beyond us?
From this perspective, the media remains one of the most influential pathways through which technology reaches people. It has the power to reinforce values, refine thought and cultivate knowledge.
Despite the uncertainties surrounding AI, one truth remains: meaningful impact endures. Its form may differ from one person to another, but its influence continues to grow through those who receive it and apply it.
The true measure of technology is not its sophistication, but the value it creates for people. As long as the desire to make a positive difference exists, that impact will continue and so will its legacy.
