MUSCAT: The Sultanate of Oman is experiencing early summer heatwave, with temperatures climbing perilously close to the 50°C mark across several governorates.

According to official meteorological data released by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) on Monday,  the wilayat of Barka recorded the nation's highest temperature at a blistering 49.1°C.

The intense heat has blanketed much of the coastal and inland regions of the country. Other areas facing extreme temperatures include Al Suwayq at 48.8°C, Wadi Al Maawil at 48.0°C, and both Saham and Bidbid closely behind at 47.9°C. Residents in the capital are also feeling the brunt of the heatwave, with Bawsher recording a high of 47.4°C and Muscat hitting 46.7°C. Authorities have urged the public to take immediate safety precautions, stay hydrated, and avoid direct exposure to sunlight during peak afternoon hours as regional temperatures continue to reflect a wider trend of accelerating global warmth.
