BIDIYAH: The joint horse and camel racing festival was held on Saturday at the Al Muntarib racecourse in the Wilayat of Bidiyah, Al Sharqiyah North Governorate, with the participation of more than 300 owners of horses and camels from across the Al Sharqiyah South and Al Sharqiyah North governorates. The event drew a large public turnout from early morning hours to witness heritage displays and competitions.
Khaled bin Hamad al Hajri, Chairman of the Bidiyah Horse Racing Club, said this year’s edition was organised by the Bidiyah Camel and Horse Committee as part of an annual tradition coinciding with the sixth of Dhul Hijjah in the wilayat.
He noted that the programme included a parade of horsemen in traditional attire, showcasing purebred horses in a vibrant display of heritage and pride.
He added that the festival is considered one of the most prominent sports and cultural heritage events in the region, owing to its wide participation and strong public engagement each year.
The event is part of ongoing efforts to promote traditional sports, preserve cultural identity, and create a festive heritage atmosphere that continues to attract citizens, tourists, and photography enthusiasts from across Oman. — ONA
