The Oman Shooting Club Shield Championship continued at Active Oman Centre with strong participation and high competitive intensity, as Action Point organised the event with the participation of 15 teams and nearly 60 competitors.

The championship has emerged as one of the key shooting events, bringing together sporting competition and an interactive shooting experience. Its format combines individual and team performances, allowing participants to test their skills across different distances, positions and shooting styles.

After the conclusion of the third day, Black Falcons topped the pistol competition standings with 244 points, followed by Team 101 in second place with 238 points. Al Karitha came third with 236 points, ahead of Al Safeer, who finished fourth with the same total. Team X were placed fifth with 231 points, while Al Failaq stood sixth on 229 points, reflecting the close margins and strong contest among the participating teams.

In the individual pistol standings, Said bin Muslim al Sarkhi of Al Safeer led the table after scoring 97 points, while Saqr bin Khamis al Jahwari of Team 101 finished second with 96 points. Jamal bin Said al Saeedi of Al Failaq came third with 95 points, level with Faisal bin Mohammed al Habsi of Team X, who also recorded 95 points. Said bin Salim al Mashiqri of Al Karitha was also among the standout performers with 91 points.

Retired Major Mohammed bin Salim al Maamari, Director of Administrative Affairs at Oman Shooting Club, said the championship reflects the club’s wider vision of attracting visitors and organising diverse events for different segments of society.

“Since its opening, the club has worked to organise activities for men, women, children and persons with disabilities, while also allowing expatriates to participate in selected events. This championship comes as a continuation of the work carried out over the past period,” he said.

SHIELD CHAMPIONSHIP

Al Maamari explained that the Shield Championship was designed to be more comprehensive by combining pistol and rifle competitions within one scoring system. Each team must consist of at least three shooters and nominate one member for the individual contest before competing in the team event.

He added that the pistol competition is calculated out of 250 points, with 100 points allocated to the individual event and 150 points to the team contest. The format includes shooting with one hand from specific distances, as well as shooting with both hands, making the event technically demanding and highly competitive.

Al Maamari noted that the rifle competition will later be added to the overall Shield standings, with participants using M4 rifles from different distances and shooting positions before the combined results determine the overall champion.

He stressed that safety remains a top priority at Oman Shooting Club, with every participant accompanied by a specialised instructor throughout the experience. He added that the current edition differs from previous events because it focuses on team competition and combined scoring, rather than individual participation alone.

The championship will continue over the coming days, with the close scores expected to add further excitement as teams compete for the Oman Shooting Club Shield title.
