Oman U-18’s Asian run ends in last 16

Muscat: Oman’s national U-18 beach volleyball team continued its campaign in the Asian U-18 Beach Volleyball Championship currently taking place in Uzbekistan, recording mixed results after securing a victory over Singapore before suffering a defeat to Kazakhstan in the Round of 16.


Following their opening-match loss to Thailand on Thursday, Oman bounced back strongly in their second group stage match on Friday, defeating Singapore 2-0 to revive their hopes of progressing in the continental competition.


The Omani side delivered a composed and confident performance throughout the match, controlling play and sealing a straight-set victory. Oman claimed the first set 21-13, before maintaining their momentum to win the second set 21-17, securing a deserved victory that boosted the team’s morale in the tournament.

The win highlighted the team’s determination to recover from the opening setback and demonstrated the players’ ability to compete at a strong level against Asian opposition in one of the continent’s leading youth beach volleyball competitions.


On Saturday, May 9, Oman faced a difficult challenge against Kazakhstan in the Round of 16, where the Kazakh side proved too strong and secured a 2-0 victory, ending Oman’s journey in the tournament.


Kazakhstan took control of the match from the start, winning the opening set 21-9, before completing the victory in the second set 21-11 to advance to the quarterfinals.

The Asian U-18 Beach Volleyball Championship is being held in Uzbekistan from May 6 to 10, featuring some of Asia’s most promising youth teams. The tournament serves as an important platform for developing young talent and providing players with valuable international experience.


Oman had been drawn into Group D alongside Thailand and Singapore, with the national team aiming to achieve positive results while gaining exposure and strengthening the development of beach volleyball in the Sultanate.


Despite exiting the tournament, Oman’s participation reflects the Oman Volleyball Association’s continued efforts to develop youth national teams and provide players with international competitive opportunities, as part of its long-term vision to build a promising generation capable of representing the Sultanate with distinction in the future.
