The Oman Handball Association (OHA) will participate on Thursday in the official opening ceremony of the new headquarters of the International Handball Federation (IHF) in Basel, Switzerland, marking a significant step in strengthening Oman’s presence on the international sports stage.

Oman will be represented by Moosa bin Khamis al Balushi, OHA Chairman, alongside presidents and representatives of member federations from around the world. The inauguration of the new headquarters represents a key milestone in the development of handball globally, The six story building, covering a total area of 4,869 square metres, will serve as a modern administrative hub to support the federation’s operations and enhance coordination among continental and national bodies.

The facility has been designed according to the latest administrative and technical standards, keeping pace with the rapid growth of the sport and reinforcing a more integrated and professional approach to its global development.

Al Balushi departed for Basel on Tuesday to attend the opening events scheduled from May 6 to 8, during which he is also set to hold official meetings with IHF officials. These discussions will focus on Oman’s bid to host the 2028 IHF Beach Handball World Championship for men and women, reflecting the Sultanate of Oman’s ambitions to host major international sporting events.

Oman’s bid is supported by its advanced sports infrastructure and proven organisational capabilities in hosting regional and international competitions, strengthening its position as a competitive candidate.

In the coming days, an IHF delegation is expected to visit Oman to assess sports venues and logistical facilities as part of the evaluation process for the hosting bid, ahead of the final decision on the host nation.
