

During its media briefing, the Sultan Qaboos University said it is implementing several development projects, including a new male student residential city, a new College of Law building, additional academic facilities and expansions across various colleges, as well as new accommodation for female students.
It confirmed the SQU's advancement in 13 performance indicators during 2025, while four other indicators are nearing their targeted levels, underscoring ongoing efforts to improve institutional efficiency and outcomes.
On the infrastructure side, the university
In academic quality and outcomes, the university reported an employer satisfaction rate of 85 percent regarding graduate competencies. It also noted that 70 percent of its bachelor’s degree programmes are now academically accredited, reflecting continued alignment of academic offerings with labour market needs. Internationally, the university advanced to 334th place in the QS World University Rankings 2026 edition, climbing 28 positions compared to the previous year.
In the area of research and innovation, the university recorded 1,851 peer-reviewed research publications in 2025. It also secured 14 patents and established seven start-up companies aimed at translating research outputs into entrepreneurial ventures. Over the past two years, total research output reached 3,390 published studies, alongside 488 conference papers and 137 consultancy projects provided to both public and private sector entities. Total research funding during the same period exceeded RO 3.3 million.
The university also highlighted its contribution to human capital development, with total graduates reaching 74,005. This includes 66,526 undergraduate graduates and 7,479 postgraduate graduates, reinforcing its role in supplying qualified national talent to various sectors of the economy.
In the field of international engagement, 478 students participated in exchange programmes with universities across more than 30 countries over the past two years. The university also maintains 83 active academic agreements and cooperation programmes with international institutions, strengthening its global academic presence and collaboration networks.
These developments reflect Sultan Qaboos University’s continued commitment to enhancing academic quality, expanding research impact, fostering innovation, and supporting national development priorities in line with Oman Vision 2040.
