MUSCAT: Six athletes from various sports were included in the Oman Olympic Committee’s continental grant programme, following the signing of support agreements on Tuesday at Muscat, aimed at strengthening Oman’s sporting presence at regional and international levels.


The signing ceremony was held under the auspices of HH Sayyid Azzan bin Qais al Said, Chairman of the Oman Olympic Committee, in the presence of board members, representatives of sports federations and committees and athletes.


The selected athletes represent a range of disciplines, include Hamza bin Abdullah al Jabri (Oman Athletics Association), Omaima bint Harib al Hinai and Nibras bin Mohammed al Touqi (Oman Taekwondo Committee), Mohammed bin Ahmed al Ghailani (Oman Triathlon Committee), Al Harith bin Salim al Harthy (Oman Fencing Committee) and Amer bin Salim al Khanjari (Oman Weightlifting Committee).

Ali bin Salim al Busafi, Acting CEO and Director of the Olympic Solidarity Department at the OOC, emphasised that continental support programmes play a vital role in developing the national sports system.


Al Busafi highlighted the committee’s commitment to providing an enabling environment for athletes in line with best technical and administrative practices, aimed at building a competitive generation capable of achieving honourable results.

Acting CEO noted that the programme enhances partnerships with sports federations, ensuring unified efforts and optimal investment in young talent through long-term development plans.


Ali concluded that such programmes offer valuable exposure to diverse sporting schools, contributing to improving athletes’ technical and physical performance, while enhancing readiness for major competitions.

The initiative also includes continuous technical monitoring, specialised coaching support, and adherence to athlete welfare, anti-doping regulations and competition integrity standards.


The agreements mark a significant step in enhancing athletes’ readiness and reinforcing Oman’s presence on the international sporting stage.
