MUSCAT: Oman and Libya have stepped up efforts to deepen economic cooperation, as senior officials from both countries reviewed a range of promising investment opportunities aligned with their national priorities.
Abdulsalam bin Mohammed al Murshidi, Chairman of Oman Investment Authority (OIA), received a high-level Libyan delegation on Wednesday, led by Dr Khalifa Rajab Abdul Sadiq, Acting Minister of Oil and Gas; and Dr Suhail Bushiha, Minister of Economy and Trade, along with accompanying officials.
The meeting focused on advancing joint work and identifying investment prospects that support the strategic objectives of both the Sultanate of Oman and the State of Libya. Discussions also covered existing areas of cooperation and avenues to expand collaboration across key sectors.
Priority areas highlighted during the talks included food security, infrastructure development, medical industries, renewable energy, information technology and healthcare services — sectors seen as offering strong potential for mutually beneficial partnerships.
Both sides underscored the importance of reinforcing economic and investment ties, with emphasis on enabling greater participation from public and private sector entities, as well as entrepreneurs. The engagement reflects a shared intent to create a more dynamic investment landscape and unlock new channels for bilateral cooperation.
The discussions come amidst broader efforts by Oman to diversify its economy and strengthen international partnerships, in line with Oman Vision 2040. For Libya, the engagement signals continued outreach to regional partners to support economic recovery and development.
Officials from both sides expressed optimism that enhanced coordination and sustained dialogue would pave the way for tangible investment outcomes, contributing to long-term growth and stability in both countries.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to build on existing relations and translate identified opportunities into actionable projects, reinforcing the longstanding ties between the two nations. — ONA
