

Muscat: Gen Sultan bin Mohammed al Numani, Minister of the Royal Office, received at his office on Sunday Asaad Hassan al Shaibani, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Syrian Arab Republic, who is currently on an official visit to the Sultanate of Oman.
The meeting reviewed bilateral relations and existing areas of cooperation between the two countries, and ways to support and develop them. It also touched on the developments in Syria and other topics of common interest.
In a separate meeting, Al Shaibani met Qais bin Mohammed al Yousef, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion.
The meeting explored avenues to enhance economic and trade relations between the two countries and discussed opportunities for joint cooperation in the upcoming phase.
The two ministers addressed various joint cooperation files, including facilitating procedures for businesspeople and investors, discussing the operation of direct flights between the two countries, and exploring opportunities for Omani companies to contribute to reconstruction projects in the Syrian Arab Republic. They also discussed means of enhancing the utilisation of the Greater Arab Free Trade Area (GAFTA) and facilitating the movement of land and maritime transport, as well as customs and non-customs procedures.
Furthermore, the two sides emphasised the importance of activating the work of the Omani-Syrian Joint Committee to enhance coordination in commercial and investment affairs between the two countries, and dispatching technical delegations to the two nations to explore trade, economic and investment cooperation opportunities.
This meeting comes within the framework of the two countries' keenness to cement economic cooperation and exchange investment opportunities, serving common interests and opening new horizons for trade integration between them. — ONA
