MUSCAT: While jumping into the gushing flash floods that wiped out trees and human beings on its way to the sea to save the people stuck in the car, rolling with the water force, Shahzad Khan, who knew no swimming, had never imagined whether he would come back alive, nor he would be able to save the people inside the car in the recent rains.

“In those few seconds between death and life, I didn’t have the time to think about anything because all I knew was that there were people inside the car, which was about to sink into the water. Was it a call from above? Or the command of my grandfather from paradise who passed away without fulfilling his dream of visiting the Kaaba to save the people in distress? I still don’t know. Khan is clueless.”

In a heartwarming display of community appreciation and cross-border solidarity, a group of people has come forward to honour 24-year-old Shahzad Khan to perform Umrah at the holy land in appreciation of his heroic action, which saved the lives of two Indian nationals during devastating floods in Barka.

"I didn't think about nationality or religion. I saw lives in danger and did it for humanity," Shahzad shared during the ceremony.

Organised by the Elite Group Oman, Dr Syed Naveed Safdar Bokhari, Ambassador of Pakistan to the Sultanate of Oman, personally lauded Khan for his extraordinary courage.

The full-board Umrah Package will allow him an all-expenses-paid spiritual journey to Saudi Arabia, along with a generous financial award in recognition of his bravery.
