Science week commences in Al Sharqiyah North, Al Batinah South

IBRA: The activities of the National Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Week, held under the theme 'Our Sciences Renewed', began on Sunday in the Wilayat of Ibra, Al Sharqiyah North Governorate.


Organised by the Ministry of Education across all educational directorates in the governorates of the Sultanate of Oman, the event features broad participation from various government, private, and civil sectors and will continue until April 9.


The event included the inauguration of an accompanying scientific exhibition at the Scientific Discovery Centre in the Wilayat of Ibra, featuring several scientific sections in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics, with the participation of higher education institutions and schools from across the governorate. Additionally, the event features the "Meteorites in Oman" exhibition, supervised by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism in Al Sharqiyah North Governorate.

Supervised by the General Directorate of Education in Al Sharqiyah North, the week will involve the implementation of numerous programmes and activities at multiple locations covering the various wilayats of the governorate. These initiatives aim to spread scientific awareness and culture, ensuring they reach various segments of society throughout the governorate.


In Al Batinah South, the activities of the fourth edition feature a wide range of purposeful scientific activities across various wilayats of the governorate with the participation of schools.


These activities cover all fields, such as energy resources, natural resources and wealth, environmental sustainability, urban planning, future technologies, environmental sciences, biodiversity, food science, agricultural technologies, industry, modern technologies, climate change, space, aviation sciences, education, digital transformation, health sciences and medical technologies.

The event aims to raise awareness of STEM fields, enhance student interest in learning science as well as engineering and technological skills, and keep pace with global trends in the dissemination of knowledge and technology. Furthermore, it seeks to simplify STEM concepts, promote scientific culture across all segments of society, and instil skills in scientific and methodical thinking and problem-solving among students.


In Al Buraimi, the event, observed in the governorate’s three wilayats, sees the participation of representatives of government departments, private sector establishments, Al Buraimi College and Al Buraimi University.


The opening ceremony was held under the auspices of Saif bin Hamad al Abdali, Director-General of Education in Al Buraimi Governorate. The event aims to raise public awareness, motivate students to learn science, engineering and technological skills and help all keep pace with global trends in the fields.


The week's activities elaborate on a wide range of dual domains, including energy and sustainable technologies, environmental science and biodiversity, space and aviation, natural resources and wealth, food sciences and agricultural technologies, education and digital transition, environmental sustainability and urban planning, industry and modern technologies, health sciences and medical technologies, future technologies and climate change. - ONA
