The Foreign Ministry affirmed that no party has claimed responsibility for the treacherous and cowardly attacks recently targeting the Sultanate of Oman. The competent authorities continue to investigate the true origin and underlying motives of the attacks.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the ministry conveyed the Sultanate of Oman’s strong condemnation and denunciation of the ongoing war, as well as all acts of violence and military targeting across the region. At the same time, the ministry reaffirmed Oman’s unwavering commitment to its established and prudent principles, grounded in a policy of active neutrality. This approach advocates for the establishment of peace, the realisation of security and stability for all countries in the region, an end to the ongoing war, and a return to dialogue and diplomacy to address the root causes of the current regional conflict — thereby preserving the region’s foundations, its prosperity and the safety and well-being of its peoples.
Meanwhile, the Sultanate of Oman participated in the 165th regular session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the ministerial level, which was held virtually, on Sunday.
Oman was represented at the meeting by Shaikh Khalifa bin Ali al Harthy, Under-Secretary of the Foreign Ministry for Political Affairs.
The meeting addressed the current situation and the dangerous escalation in the region and its impact on the security, stability, and interests of the region and the world at large.
The meeting was attended by Abdullah bin Nasser al Rahbi, Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to the Arab Republic of Egypt and Permanent Representative to the League of Arab States, Shaikh Faisal bin Omar al Marhoon, Head of the Arab Department at the Foreign Ministry, and a number of officials from the Foreign Ministry.
Arab foreign ministers unanimously named former Egyptian foreign minister Nabil Fahmy the Arab League's new Secretary-General.
Fahmy will be officially approved by Arab leaders at the next summit, set to be held in Saudi Arabia, before starting his five-year term in July.
ATTACK ON MILITARY CAMP
Kuwait's defence ministry on Sunday said 10 service members were injured in an attack on a military camp, as Iran continues targeting positions in the region in response to US-Israeli strikes.
"Over the past 24 hours, the armed forces detected 14 ballistic missiles and 12 hostile drones in Kuwaiti airspace," said defence ministry spokesman Colonel Saud bin Abdulaziz al Atwan in a statement.
Iran said it was ready to respond to a US ground attack, accusing Washington of preparing a land assault even as the Trump administration sought talks and as regional countries met in Pakistan to try to end the conflict.
The foreign ministers of Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Egypt met in Islamabad to discuss ways to halt the Iran war, which has killed thousands of people and caused the biggest-ever disruption to global energy supplies.
The ministers exchanged views on the severe economic repercussions of the military escalation in the region, its impact on international navigation, supply chains and food security, as well as its implications for energy security in light of rising oil prices, Egypt's foreign ministry said.
As the conflict entered its second month, Israel's military said it carried out overnight strikes on Tehran, targeting what it described as a facility producing critical components for ballistic missiles and a weapons production and storage site.
Iran launched multiple missile salvos at Israel on Sunday, sending millions of people across the country into shelters. Israel's fire and rescue service said a blaze had broken out in an industrial area in the country's south after an "impact".
Chemical manufacturing and industrial plants, as well as a hazardous waste treatment facility, are located in the industrial area. It was not immediately clear if a missile had hit the area or if the fire was caused by debris from an interception.
Iran's parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf accused the US of sending messages about possible negotiations while at the same time secretly planning to send in troops, adding that Tehran was ready to respond if US soldiers were deployed.
