MUSCAT, MARCH 28
An expatriate man, who saved the lives of two from a sinking car in the flashfloods during the rains was feted for his bravery by various associations besides the diplomatic mission.
Pakistani citizen Shahzad Khan, who bravely saved two Indian nationals from floods on Wednesday, has already been given a heroic pursuit by both Omanis and expatriates on social media platforms.
Dr Syed Naveed Safdar Bukhari, Ambassador of Pakistan to the Sultanate of Oman, said that his bravery showed what common people can do to assist in alleviating the impacts of such natural adversities. "Khan demonstrated exceptional courage and humanity, and risked his own life to rescue the individuals, and it has earned widespread admiration across the community," he said.
"I couldn't think twice while the lives inside the ill-fated car were at the brink of death. While people were taking photos and filming the car which was already half-submerged, I threw myself beneath the bridge where the car was luckily stuck in the gushing waters," Khan said.
When the attempts of the 25-year-old Khan, a blue-collar worker, to break the window glass using his legs became futile, he managed to pull both occupants, Indian nationals, through the broken doors to safety, preventing what could have been a fatal incident.
The Pakistan Social Club (PSC) organised a special ceremony to honour Khan, whose extraordinary act of bravery saved the lives of two Indian nationals who were trapped in the recent flood conditions.
