

MUSCAT: The consumer price index in the Sultanate of Oman rose by 2 per cent in February 2026 compared to the same month in 2025, according to data from the National Centre for Statistics and Information.
The average inflation rate increased by 1.7 per cent during the first two months of the year. Price rises were led by miscellaneous goods and services, which surged by 13.4 per cent, followed by restaurants and hotels at 5.7 per cent, and furniture and household equipment at 3 per cent. Food and non-alcoholic beverages rose by 2.8 per cent, while education increased by 2.2 per cent.
Other categories recorded modest increases, including health at 1.7 per cent, while transport and recreation rose by 0.2 per cent. Housing, utilities, communications and tobacco prices remained largely stable.
Within the food category, vegetables recorded the highest increase at 8.3 per cent, followed by fruits at 5.4 per cent and sugar products at 3.1 per cent. Fish, beverages and dairy products also saw moderate increases.
Regionally, Al Dhahirah recorded the highest inflation at 3 per cent, followed by Muscat at 2.5 per cent. Other governorates reported moderate increases, reflecting broadly stable inflationary trends across the Sultanate of Oman. — ONA
