Alert for thunderstorms to continue until Monday

Due to the continued impact of the weather system, the chances of heavy thunderstorms will persist through tonight and Monday, according to Oman Meteorology.


These storms are expected to be accompanied by hail and fresh downdraft winds as a result of the associated cloud formations in  the governorates of Muscat, Al Dhahirah, Al Dakhiliyah, North Al Sharqiyah, South Al Batinah, Musandam, North Al Batinah, Al Buraimi, South Al Sharqiyah, and Al Wusta.

Warnings

Heavy thundershowers are expected, associated with hail, and may cause flashfloods (wadis).

Strong downdraft active winds with speeds ranging from 15 to 50 knots (28-92 km/h).

Reduced horizontal visibility during thundershowers.

Chance of isolated rain with a chance of thundershowers will affect Dhofar Governorate. Impact level: Low to Moderate.

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) advised all to take precautions during thundershowers, not to cross wadis (flashfloods), avoid low-lying areas, and not to sail during the alert period.
