MUSCAT: The glaucoma surgery team at Sultan Qaboos University Hospital has successfully introduced the ‘Preserflo MicroShunt’ technique for glaucoma treatment for the first time in the Sultanate of Oman.

The move is part of the University Medical City’s ongoing efforts to develop specialised healthcare services and localise advanced medical technologies according to the highest international standards. The newly-introduced technique involves implanting a micro-stent inside the eye, which helps to effectively and sustainably reduce intraocular pressure, thus expanding advanced treatment options for patients.

The first procedures were performed under the leadership of Dr Samia al Jabri, Consultant Glaucoma Surgeon, and Dr Aisha al Busaidy, Senior Consultant Glaucoma Surgeon, with the support of an integrated medical team and technical staff.
