MUSCAT: Chaand Raat, a colourful event that marks the festivities and preparations leading up to Eid Al Fitr, will be held as part of the Women's Day month celebrations at the Al Bahja Hall in Jungle Restaurant on Wednesday and Thursday at 7 pm.

Organised by Shaheenz Events, hundreds of visitors, predominantly women, will showcase their artistic skills. Scores of women and girls are expected to attend the event.

The 'Chaand Raat', which means henna night, is an annual event that is part of the celebrations of the various communities residing in Oman. It encourages all families to gather in one place to do the final rounds of shopping and discuss their Eid preparations.

There will be a henna contest for both professional and amateur henna artists. One can book a henna stall with them and get a chance to win rewards, according to Shaheen, the key organiser. "The best henna design incorporating national values and aesthetic design will be rewarded by a key personnel," she said.

There will also be distribution of bangles, henna painting, gifts for kids and delicacies of Asia, including purigol gappa served to the attendees throughout the event. With live mehndi, colourful bangles, antique to modern jewellery, as well as lots of entertainment and fun events, the Chaand Raat is expected to add colours to the people getting ready for Eid Al Fitr.
