The Oman Basketball Association has received an official letter from the Gulf Basketball Federation confirming the postponement of the Gulf Youth Basketball Championship, which was scheduled to be hosted by Qatar at the end of April. The decision came following a request from the Asian Basketball Federation to delay the tournament in light of current security developments that may affect travel and the safety of participating delegations.

In its letter, the Gulf federation stated that the decision was taken to ensure the safety of all participating teams, as well as the technical and administrative staff and fans, stressing that the security and well-being of participants remain a top priority for the organisers of the championship.

The federation added that the tournament will be postponed until the situation stabilises, after which coordination will take place with the Qatar Basketball Federation to determine a new date for hosting the event under suitable technical and organisational conditions.

It also noted that all national federations will be officially informed of the new schedule once it is confirmed, allowing teams sufficient time to prepare for the championship.

The postponement decision comes as a precautionary measure aimed at ensuring the highest levels of safety for all participants, reflecting the Gulf federation’s commitment to organising sports competitions in a secure and stable environment.
