Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman took part in the extraordinary meeting of the GCC Information Ministers, which was held yesterday evening via videoconference. The meeting aimed to discuss the rapid developments in the region and enhance Gulf media coordination amidst the current escalation.

The Sultanate of Oman was represented at the meeting by Dr Abdullah bin Nasser al Harrasi, Minister of Information.

During the meeting, Dr Abdullah affirmed that the media message at this critical juncture carries multiplied significance. He stressed the necessity of maintaining a balanced and responsible media discourse—one that reinforces stability, consolidates awareness and reflects the confidence of GCC societies in their ability to overcome this crisis, just as they have overcome numerous challenges in the past.

He pointed out that the current phase necessitates adhering to established constants in Gulf media discourse, founded on wisdom, balance, prudence and prioritizing the common interests that unite the region's states and peoples.

The minister added that the efforts undertaken by the Sultanate of Oman, with the support the GCC states, stem from a sincere desire to spare the region the scourges of conflict. However, the destructive war witnessed in the region on Tuesday, whose repercussions have expanded to include GCC member states and other nations, multiplies the media's responsibility to act as a voice of wisdom and stability, Dr Abdullah affirmed.

For his part, Dr Ramzan Abdullah al Nuaimi, Minister of Information of the Kingdom of Bahrain and chairman of the meeting, lauded the efforts of the Sultanate of Oman, under the leadership of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, in bringing viewpoints closer between the American and Iranian sides, serving international peace and security.

The meeting discussed means of enhancing coordination and integration among official media institutions in the GCC states to address current developments and their repercussions, alongside intensifying efforts to counter rumors and media disinformation campaigns. This aims to contribute to supporting stability and solidifying awareness within the societies of the GCC states.
