MUSCAT: Oman’s women’s cricket team continues to make impressive strides, translating recent success into historic milestones and a sharp rise in the Women’s T20I rankings.

After winning 10 of 12 WT20Is in 2025, Oman carried that momentum into 2026 with a 4-0 home series sweep over Denmark and a 4-1 away series victory against Qatar in Doha — their first international tour in two years.

The team’s progress has been reflected in the rankings, with Oman climbing to 36th in the world after being outside the standings and below 75th in 2024.

Jayadhanyha Gunasekar has been central to that rise, becoming the first Omani woman to score a WT20I century with an unbeaten 101 off 62 balls against Denmark on February 6, 2026, at Al Amerat. She is now Oman’s leading run-scorer with 774 runs in 20 innings, ranked 77th globally among WT20I batters, and holds the second-highest career batting average in the format at 48.37.

Oman’s batting strength has also been boosted by Fiza Javed (621 runs) and Priyanka Mendonca (576), giving the side greater stability at the top of the order.

Head coach Desmond Berhardt said the Denmark series helped build confidence, while the Qatar tour — where three matches were decided in the final over provided a sterner test. Oman still emerged 4-1 winners, with Jayadhanyha named Player of the Tournament.

Berhardt praised the players’ growth in confidence and maturity, saying the team had returned stronger and better prepared to build on its recent success.
