The inauguration of the national documentary book 'The Al Busaid State: From Its Foundation to the Era of Renewed Renaissance,' was held under the auspices of Sayyid Saud bin Hilal Al Busaidy, Governor of Muscat, on Thursday at St Regis Muscat.

The book serves as a historical and educational reference that documents the political, cultural, and civilisational development of the Al Busaid State from its foundation in 1744 to the era of renewed renaissance. It aims to strengthen national identity among students and highlight the milestones that shaped the modern Omani state.

In her speech, Dr Madeeha bint Ahmed al Shaibaniyah, Minister of Education, said the inauguration reflects the Ministry’s dedication to presenting Omani history in a clear and accessible way for younger generations.

She noted that the book aligns with the national directive to mark November 20 each year as a day that highlights the historical legacy of the Al Busaid rulers, serving as a bridge that connects Oman’s present with its rich past.

She added that the book presents a vivid account of the contributions of successive rulers of the Al Busaid State — leaders known for their wisdom, fairness, and commitment to the nation’s unity and progress. She explained that they strengthened state institutions, supported economic growth and maritime development, promoted cultural exchange, and upheld values of tolerance and constructive dialogue, forming a legacy that continues to inspire future generations.

Dr Khalid bin Mohammed al Rahbi, Assistant Director for Humanities Curriculum Development at the Ministry of Education and a member of the book’s authoring team, emphasised the educational purpose behind the project. He explained that the book was developed as part of the Ministry’s efforts to reinforce national identity in line with Oman’s educational philosophy and Oman Vision 2040.

He noted that the book relies on verified documents, photographs, and maps that present the evolution of the Al Busaid State in a clear and student-friendly format. Speaking about the importance of history, he said: “History is a living memory for nations. We do not read the past just to remember it, but to build our future and to deepen the bond between people and their land.”

The inauguration marks an important step in preserving Oman’s historical narrative, offering students, educators, and readers a valuable resource that connects the nation’s rich past with its ongoing journey of progress and renewal.
