SUR, MARCH 8
Activities at the Ghazi Ramadhan Village in the Wilayat of Sur drew strong public participation as part of the 23rd edition of the Ghazi Ramadhan events, which concluded on March 5. The programme offered a diverse mix of cultural, educational and entertainment activities throughout the holy month.
The events, held at the City Centre Walkway in Sur, recently celebrated the winners of the popular 'Seen–Jeem' cultural quiz competition.
Contestants answered questions on topics including religion, arts, language, mathematics, sports and general knowledge, generating enthusiasm and lively interaction among the audience.
The main stage hosted a range of cultural, artistic and awareness segments. Zainab bint Ali al Kathiri, Director of the Family Development Department at the Directorate-General of Social Development in Al Sharqiyah South, delivered a session on child protection, addressing abuse, neglect and bullying, while highlighting Oman’s Child Law safeguards.
Another awareness session, presented by Mariam bint Salem al Ismaili, Head of Administrative and Financial Affairs at the Consumer Protection Department in Al Sharqiyah South, focused on consumer rights. She emphasised monitoring children’s consumption, avoiding prohibited goods, inspecting products before purchase, and keeping receipts and warranties.
The cultural programme included a theatrical performance by the Sur Theatre Group, creatively addressing social challenges related to marriage, such as rising costs of weddings and dowries. Omani vocalists Ahmed al Manji, Hussein al Mukhaini, Abdullah al Khudhouri and Khalid al Araimi added a spiritual dimension with nasheed performances, warmly received by the audience.
Artist Abdulhakim al Salhi entertained visitors with traditional storytelling (Hakawati), sharing Islamic values and moral lessons in an interactive style appealing to both adults and children.
The Ghazi Ramadhan Village also features booths for SMEs, productive families and local artisans, alongside photography and children’s drawing corners. Community organisations, including Sur Charity Team and the Zakat Committee of Sur, highlighted their humanitarian initiatives.
The initiative fosters community engagement, supports local economic activity, and strengthens partnerships between institutions and community groups, enriching the Ramadhan atmosphere in Sur.
Oman LNG recently unveiled the visual identity for the 23rd edition of the Ghazi Ramadhan events, reaffirming its continued support for this prominent community gathering.
