Omani Teacher's Day
MUSCAT: The Sultanate of Oman on Tuesday commemorated Omani Teacher's Day, observed annually on February 24, in a celebration that reaffirms the teaching profession's indispensable role in shaping generations and advancing the eternal values of knowledge and learning throughout the nation.
His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik accords profound and sustained attention to teachers, ensuring comprehensive support for the educational process, continuously developing pedagogical tools and methodologies, and strategically positioning the sector to keep pace with rapid technological transformations, including the thoughtful integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and advanced technologies within the learning environment.
Her Highness The Honourable Lady Assayida Ahd Abdullah Hamed al Busaidi, Spouse of the Sultan of Oman, has emphasised the teacher's exalted and foundational status as the bedrock upon which nations build their renaissance and an essential pillar without which progress and development cannot be sustained.
The annual observance of Omani Teacher's Day represents both grateful appreciation and formal recognition of the profession's noble and multifaceted mission, which transcends mere knowledge transmission to encompass the holistic formation of character, the careful cultivation of values, and the systematic development of students' critical and creative thinking capacities. This comprehensive approach extends to the strategic employment of modern technologies — including smart classrooms, interactive learning applications and virtual reality techniques — in enhancing educational quality and motivating students towards engaged, effective and lifelong learning.
According to official statistics, the number of educators in the Sultanate of Oman has reached 57,741, comprising 13,950 male teachers and 43,791 female teachers, achieving an Omanisation rate of 87.6 per cent. This remarkable figure reflects profound and abiding confidence in national competencies and their vital, transformative role in advancing the educational system to ever-greater heights of excellence. - ONA
