AL RUSTAQ: Al Rustaq Hospital in the Al Batinah South Governorate performed more than 7,000 surgical operations during 2025. Over the past year, the hospital received more than 180,000 patients in outpatient clinics and emergency units, while the number of inpatients grew to 23,000. The hospital also conducted half a million blood tests and 45,000 X-ray tests.
Dr Mahmoud bin Salim al Subhi, Director of Al Rustaq Hospital, said in a statement to ONA that the hospital obtained an international accreditation certificate from the World Health Organization (WHO) in the field of healthcare and patient safety. The hospital also received accreditation as a mother-and-child friendly hospital.
The two accreditations contributed to establishing a modern healthcare system in Al Rustaq Hospital, which operates in accordance with the best global practices, said Al Subhi.
He explained that Al Rustaq Hospital provides secondary healthcare services in different specialities, including internal medicine, general surgery, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, orthopaedics, ENT, ophthalmology, anaesthesia and intensive care.
Al Subhi said that the hospital boasts a range of specialised specialities like adult and neonatal intensive care, endoscopic surgery, high-risk pregnancy clinics, infectious disease and infection control services, a blood bank and advanced radiology services.
Recently, tertiary specialities have been added to the hospital services, including paediatric surgery, adult and paediatric gastroenterology and hepatology, endocrinology, chest diseases, infectious diseases, paediatric haematology and neurology, he added.
He said that Al Rustaq uses the services of visiting consultants who lend support to some specialised units. Such visits also help cut down the volume of referrals and raise the standards of specialised services that the hospital provides.
Al Subhi said that key operational challenges facing the hospital include rising demand for health services. He explained that dealing with these challenges is done through the improvement of operational efficiency and the modernisation of the infrastructure.
He explained that the recent opening of Al Suwaiq Referral Hospital will contribute to distributing health cases, notably cases from Al Musannah and some villages of Al Rustaq close to Al Suwaiq.
Al Subhi said that a plan is underway to expand Al Rustaq Hospital, modernise medical equipment and improve the hospital's working environment to enhance the volume of healthcare services that it renders to patients. — ONA
