MUSCAT: A two-day women’s health awareness campaign under the slogan ‘Her Story, Our Voice’ held at Al Mouj Walk in Muscat, aimed to strengthen community awareness of key health issues affecting women.

The initiative is organised by the Medical Students Group (MEDSCO) at Sultan Qaboos University and the National University of Science and Technology, in partnership with the Ministry of Health, represented by the National Center for Women’s and Child Health, as well as the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and other related entities.

The campaign was launched under the auspices of HH Sayyidah Dr Basma bint Fakhri al Said and features 13 dedicated awareness corners, each focusing on a specific health issue.

Topics include polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), endometriosis, cervical cancer associated with human papillomavirus (HPV), breast cancer, premarital medical examination, sexually transmitted diseases, urinary tract infections, infertility, assisted reproductive technologies such as IVF, safe pregnancy and family planning, menopause, skin conditions and women’s mental health at various life stages.

An interactive children’s corner offers competitions, colouring activities and simplified health awareness sessions. A dedicated health services section, led by the Ministry of Health and the Directorate-General of Health Services in Muscat Governorate, provides on-site consultations and information about available healthcare services and access procedures.

While the campaign focuses primarily on women’s health, organisers emphasise the importance of engaging the wider community, recognising the vital role of families and society in supporting women, enhancing health literacy and encouraging early medical consultation.

The initiative reflects Oman’s growing commitment to advancing women’s health through preventive and therapeutic programmes developed by the Ministry of Health in collaboration with academic and community partners, aiming to improve service quality and strengthen public awareness. – ONA
