SUR: Three community initiatives were officially launched in Sur for the holy month of Ramadhan, with funding and support from Sharqiyah Desalination Company. The initiatives were inaugurated under the auspices of Shaikh Dr Hilal bin Ali al Habsi, Wali of Sur.
The initiatives form part of ongoing efforts to strengthen social solidarity and support vulnerable groups during Ramadhan, a month deeply associated with compassion, generosity and mutual support. The programmes include the “Iftar for Fasting People” initiative, now in its tenth consecutive year, the distribution of food baskets to 100 underprivileged families and a special initiative to support orphans during Eid.
The Wali of Sur commended the initiatives and highlighted their importance in reinforcing social cohesion within the community. He praised Sharqiyah Desalination Company for its continued commitment to social responsibility and for supporting programmes that directly benefit low-income families and vulnerable segments of society, particularly during the holy month. Such initiatives reflect a strong sense of partnership between institutions and the local community, contributing to broader social development goals.
Dr Saleh bin Hamad al Alawi explained that corporate social responsibility represents a moral and ethical obligation for institutions towards the communities in which they operate. He stressed that CSR goes beyond financial contributions to include meaningful engagement in improving social, economic and environmental conditions, while ensuring that initiatives create a positive and sustainable impact.
“Ramadhan embodies the highest values of solidarity and compassion,” Al Alawi said. “Through these initiatives, we aim to extend a helping hand to families in need, easing their burdens and supporting them in meeting the basic requirements of the holy month."
