MUSCAT: MUSCAT: Under the auspices of Eng Odai bin Hilal al Maawali, Chairman of the Medical City for Military and Security Services, Oman Health Sciences College celebrated the graduation of 620 students from its 41st cohort on Sunday at Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The ceremony brought together senior officials, academic leaders, families and guests to mark the achievement of graduates from bachelor’s and diploma programmes in nursing, pharmacy, medical laboratory sciences, medical imaging, physiotherapy and health information management. With this cohort, the college’s total number of graduates has reached nearly 22,000, underscoring its growing contribution to Oman’s national healthcare system.

Proceedings opened with recitation from the Holy Quran, followed by a formal presentation highlighting the importance of knowledge in shaping society.

Dr Fahad bin Mahmoud al Zadjali, Dean of Oman Health Sciences College, said in his address that 2025 had been a milestone year for the institution, marked by strong academic achievements, expanded partnerships at local, regional and international levels, and the launch of new programmes aligned with labour-market needs and the country’s health transformation plans.

He noted that the establishment of the college in 2018 represented a major step forward in university-level health education, building on a journey that began in 1959 with Oman’s first nursing training programme. Today, he added, the college stands as a national centre for preparing qualified professionals guided by the principle of 'people first'.

Graduates then took the Health Professions Oath, pledging to uphold ethical standards, protect human dignity and deliver care with responsibility and compassion.

Speaking on behalf of the graduating class, Saif bin Khalifa al Yaqubi expressed pride in the achievement and gratitude to parents, faculty and administrators for their constant support, affirming the graduates’ commitment to serving the nation across all health fields.

Top achievers were honoured, and certificates were awarded in stages with the participation of branch deans and programme directors, highlighting the collective effort behind developing Omani talent.

At the close of the ceremony, Dr Ahmed bin Salim al Mandhari, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Health for Planning and Health Regulation and Chairman of the College Academic Council, with Dr Fahad bin Mahmoud al Zadjali, presented a commemorative gift to the patron in appreciation of his continued support for health education.

Organisers concluded that graduation is not an end, but the start of a new chapter of service and responsibility, as the new professionals carry their knowledge and values into workplaces across Oman to strengthen healthcare quality and keep people at the heart of practice.
